Veterans Affairs Physicians Assistant Association

Delivering Opportunities for Care and Services (DOCS) for Veterans Act

Hello VAPAA,

Now that the bill has been introduced, here is how VAPAA members, all AAPA friends, and chapter contacts can help.  We need you to send letters of support to Senator Tester as well as your own state senators, requesting that they become co-sponsors of the bill and fully support “The Delivering Opportunities for Care (DOCs) for Veterans Act.” S. 1649.

The Letter Is At The Bottom Of This Page

The instructions to be clear... YOU must not just copy, paste, and send without making sure you change the heading to the Senator you are sending the letter to and to include your name, addresses on the letter! You would be amazed at how many people take sample letters, don’t even take one minute to add their information in it.

In addition to sending the letter to Senator Tester, we need PA’s to find their own two Senator's address and ask them to become a co-sponsor of Senator Tester's bill.  You can EMAIL or FAX the same letter to your Senator, but change the last paragraph to read "as a PA employee in the VAMC in your home state I ask you to co-sponsor Senator Tester's DOC bill"

If you are practicing in one of the states that has one of the Senate VA Committee members (listed below), we are asking that you send the letter to them as well.  No one should mail a letter, as it takes weeks to get to the offices inside the senate buildings, average is four weeks time because all mail is screened!

Please individualize all your letters with your location, years as a PA, and if you are a veteran please mention that in your letter as well.

Tester’s DOCS for Veterans Act, which is cosponsored by Senators Claire McCaskill (D-Mo.), Tom Udall (D-N.M.) and Brian Schatz (D-Hawaii), is available online HERE.  A summary of the bill’s provisions is available HERE.  Three other senators have become co-sponsors in first 24 hours! We only need 95 more to complete this!

www.Thomas.Gov is a web site that you can find contact information on your Senator.

We have made great strides with getting our voices heard in Congress!!  A few minutes of your time to send a few letters can make a huge difference for the PA profession within the VA for many years to come!!!  Please don't put this off and send letters today!!
