As you may know, the VAPAA lost a great member and many of us lost a great friend in February when Alan "A.J." Kent passed away after a long and valiant battle with cancer. He was an inspiration to those who knew him, and he was instrumental in shaping the VAPAA as it exists today. A.J.'s family has requested that any donations in his memory be made to the Iron Mountain High School Student Activity Fund for sports camps. The VAPAA Board has agreed to match any donations from VAPAA members up to $1,000. If you would like to donate in memory of AJ Kent, please make your check out to the Iron Mountain High School Activity Fund and send it to VAPAA, P.O. Box 128, Iron Mountain, MI 49801. We will match your donation and deliver it to the scholarship administrator at the school. Four students - two boys and two girls - have been awarded Activity Scholarships for the 2008 summer scholarship and will be attending basketball and football camps at regional universities. Audrey Smith of Iron Mountain has taken over some of the many duties AJ performed for the VAPAA and has assumed the role of Executive Director. She maintains the membership database, takes care of membership dues payments and handles the VAPAA Hotline. If she can't answer your VAPAA questions, she will find someone who can! You may reach her by leaving a message on our toll free Hotline at 1-866-VA-VAPAA (that's 1-866-828-2722). Thank you in adnvace for supporting the memory of our great fallen comrade AJ Kent, PA-C.
